Writing grant proposals

  1. Do your research on funding organisations and carefully analyse what a call for proposals may be requesting.
  2. Enlist as much help as you can!
  3. Having collaborators with different skills can add to the quality of the science but you must meet them and ensure you understand each other.
  4. Clarity will be vital in your writing.
  5. State early on what hypotheses you are testing.
  6. Find a way to bring in a ‘wow factor’ with your offer.
  7. Get started early; time will run out fast!
  8. Learn what makes a good proposal by becoming a reviewer yourself!
